Afkham hails Leader's support for nuclear team
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham thanked the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for his support for the Iranian nuclear negotiating team.
During her weekly press briefing on Wednesday, she hailed the confidence the Supreme Leader has voiced in the performance of the nuclear team.
Ayatollah Khamenei in a speech on Tuesday supported the Iranian nuclear negotiating team by calling them courageous, devoted and thrustworthy.
The support of the Leader as well as that of the Iranian nation for the negotiating team are the real assets for the Iranian foreign policy system, Afkham stressed.
As for the process of the nuclear negotiations, she said the talks are underway and things are in a very tough and concise stage.
Afkham said all important issues are being discussed in expert and deputy levels.
She further noted that the date of the presence of foreign ministers in the talks is not fixed yet.
However, she added, they will surely be present in Vienna before the nuclear deadline (June 30).
As for a recent motion by the Iranian parliament which obliges the government to safeguard nuclear achievements, the spokeswoman said the cabinet saw the move as unfruitful but is ready to abide by it as a law after its final adoption and ratification by the Guardians Council.
Commenting on the situation in Yemen, Afkham said the final solution to Yemen crisis is undoubtedly a political one.
She stressed there is no other way out of the problem so every efforts should aim at reaching this objective.
Turning to the newly-eded Geneva talks on Yemen, she said though the meeting concluded in no results, still Iran favored continuation of all efforts for another round of talks.
She further regretted that numerous calls for halt in operations in Yemen during the holy month of Ramdan were ignored.
The spokeswoman also hoped a truce will be in place during the holy month of Ramadan.
She said attacking Yemen is acceptable in no way.
