Iran plans to manufacture new destroyers

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Deputy Minister of Defense Brigadier General Amir Hatami said the country plans to manufacture new destroyers of 'Mouj' class in the next three years.
"New destroyers of Mouj class will be made in 2015, 2016 and 2017," he said, adding the Navy has overhauled equipment with a systematic planning.
The naval industries equipment have been designed and built by local expertise, he said, adding, new equipment with higher level of locality will be used in building the new destroyers.
Hatami continued that the country faces no limitation in military equipment. "We will provide the armed forces with equipment based on the level of needs."
He also referred to the home-made Damavand Destroyer and said the destroyer is the second generation of Jamaran Destroyer which holds more capacity in terms of equipment, weapon, carrying people and operation power comparing to Jamaran Destroyer.
Hatami further continued that Damavand is a super-system which is completely operational.
