A high-ranking Iranian official says Iran's port city of Jask in the southern province of Hormozgan will turn into the country's second crude oil export terminal in the near future.

Akbar Torkan, a top aide to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, said on Wednesday that Kazakhstan plans to construct a pipeline running through the Iranian territory to carry crude oil from its Aktau seaport to potential buyers in the Persian Gulf.

The Iranian official noted that the pipeline will end in Jask, situated about 1,690 kilometers (1,050 miles) south of Iran's capital, Tehran, adding that tankers will be able to dock at Jask port in the future to load oil products.

Torkan went on to say that Iran also seeks to construct a pipeline projected to transfer crude oil from the oil terminal in its northern port city of Neka, situated some 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of Tehran, to Jask.

He said feasibility studies have been also carried out with respect to the construction of a pipeline to carry Iranian natural gas from the city of Sarakhs in northeastern Iran to Jask.

Apart from the projected oil storage depots, a network will be launched in Jask to turn the coastal city into an oil export terminal, Torkan added.

Currently, Kharg Island is regarded as Iran's main oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf.

On March 28, Torkan noted that part of the natural gas transferred to Jask will be exported to the Persian Gulf kingdom of Oman, while the rest will feed petrochemical and steel industries in the coastal region.

On March 12, Iran and Oman signed a contract under which the Islamic Republic will supply the Persian Gulf state with 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
