IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 3, IRNA -- Head of the National Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi said that Arak nuclear reactor would be re-designed to produce lesser plutonium.
However, he made it clear that the nuclear site maintains its original function as a heavy water reactor.
He was responding to a question on the concern of the western governments about the plutonium output of the Arak heavy water reactor and whether the dispute over plutonium with Group 5+1 was settled.
He said there is still work going on the reactor for another three years but it is to be re-designed to yield lesser plutonium.
Responding to another question whether the issue of ballistic missiles will be a topic of the Comprehensive Agreement about the nuclear disputre, he said that the ballistic missiles have nothing to do with the Comprehensive Agreement with Group 5+1.
Salehi said he is citing the remarks of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, as Irans top nuclear negotiator.
Zarif has categorically rejected that the ballistic missile is a subject in the Comprehensive Agreement.
