Iran has turned down a fresh request by UN Human Rights Rapporteur on Iran Ahmed Shaheed to visit the Islamic Republic due to his biased reports.

“As long as this trend of unjust reports has not come to a halt, there will be no ground for Ahmad Shaheed’s visit to Iran,” Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday.

“We unfortunately do not consider Ahmed Shaheed an impartial rapporteur,” he added.

Araqchi confirmed that Shaheed has sent two letters to Iran President Hassan Rouhani requesting a travel to Tehran to assess the human rights situation in the country.

“It is not comprehensible and acceptable for us that Ahmed Shaheed has met with certain individuals outside his responsibility…,” he stated.

On June 17, 2011, the UN Human Rights Council, under pressure from the United States and its allies, named former Maldivian foreign minister, Ahmed Shaheed, as human rights rapporteur on Iran.

Tehran insists that the appointment of a UN special rapporteur on Iran's human rights situation is a selective, politically-motivated and unacceptable move.
