No decision yet to upgrade level of negotiations with G5+1: FM spokesman

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran Aug 13, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday that no decision has been made yet to upgrade the level of Iran-G5+1 talks so that foreign ministers of the two sides can take part in the negotiations.

He told reporters that any decision on the issue is pending the formation of new government and appointment of new nuclear negotiating team by President Hassan Rohani.

He noted that EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, who leads the six major powers in negotiations with Iran, has the status of foreign minister of the European Union.

He voiced readiness of Iranˈs Foreign Ministry to help the President go ahead with his plans and fulfill the guidelines of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Asked about remarks made by an MP about reopening of British Embassy in Iran, Araqchi said that based on a decision made by the Parliament, in case of resumption of Tehran-London diplomatic ties, it will be at the level of charge dˈaffaires.

He expressed hope that the UK will give up its hostile approaches toward Iran to pave the way for resumption of ties.

Commenting on border disputes between India and Pakistan, he called on both governments to exercise restraint and settle the dispute through negotiations in a peaceful manner.
