Rohani: Nuclear program matter of national interest

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- President Hassan Rohani said on Tuesday that Iranian peaceful nuclear program is a matter of national interest.

He told the press conference that there are a number of principles concerning nuclear program adding that nuclear rights are emphasized by the government based on international regulations.

Bilateral concerns can be removed through talks in not so distant future if the other party is ready too, said Rohani, adding: 'Any demand falling beyond law or being illogical and outdated would be useless. We should deal with the issue realistically. Dialogue should be on agenda and not threat. Anybody supposing can dictate their wishes on Iranian nation would suffer a grave blunder.'

'As Iran's president, I announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran has necessary political will to solve the issue while maintaining rights of Iranian people. Concurrently, it is ready to allay concerns of the other party. Long debates are not needed. We hope that the other party too would have political will to do so and favorable outcome would be gained shortly.'

On future of talks with the west, he said he is not pessimistic.

'Constructive dialogue and engagement, removal of mutual concern would be in interest of both parties and we favor a win-win game, which is possible.'

On Iran-Russia cooperation in nuclear field and establishment of new power plants in Bushehr, he said Iran needs 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power.
