IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Aug 4, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that the coincidence of the oath taking ceremony with the anniversary of Constitutional movement is a good-omen for process of Iranian democracy.
Addressing oath-taking ceremony of President Hassan Rohani, he said the occasion is very important for us from two different aspects defined as a new era of the executive body and marking the anniversary of Constitutional movement which demonstrates high demand of Iranian people for democracy.
The Constitutional movement dates back to Qajar era when the people wanted to have a written document to specify scope of the Qajar rulers authority over the people and their responsibility toward the people.
Activists, lawyers and intellectuals put their life at risk in early 1900s and languished in the prisons to force the Qajar rulers to put signature on Constitution to clarify scope of Qajar rulers authority and to put restrictions on plundering wealth of the people and Qajar rulers dominence on life of the people and arbirtrary detention of the intellectuals.
On August 4, 1906, Mozaffar-eddin Shah of Qajar put signature on Constitution which guaranteed human rights and social and individual rights.
