The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has hailed the peaceful transition of executive power as a result of Islamic democracy in Iran.

Speaking after the endorsement of Hassan Rohani as Iran's new president on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei described the relationship between the Iranian people and government as exemplary.

The Leader said the affairs of the country are carried out by the people, the election is in the hands of the people, and everything revolves around Islam.

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that moderation is the path of Islam and adherence to Islamic values and seeking God's approval will lead the Iranian nation to success.

The Leader said resolving the problems that the country is currently facing requires time.

Ayatollah Khamenei recalled the hostilities shown by the enemies of the Islamic Revolution, the United States in particular, and called on the people and officials to learn from the hardships imposed by the enemies and strive for greater might and self-sufficiency for the country.

"Some enemies, from the first day after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, openly stated ruining the revolution and removing the Islamic government as their goals. However 34 years after that day, they have failed not only to destabilize the Islamic Republic, but also to stop its progress," the Leader noted.

Ayatollah Khamenei hailed Rohani as a tested figure who offered great services to the nation prior to his democratic election as president, and expressed hope the new head of the executive body will successfully fulfill his duties and properly meet people's demands.

Having been endorsed in a ceremony attended by senior Iranian officials in the capital city of Tehran, Rohani will take the oath of office on Sunday in Majlis with the participation of Iranian officials as well as foreign dignitaries.

He succeeds Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose two legally allowed consecutive terms ended on Saturday.

Rohani won the June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of 36, 704, 156 ballots. Voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent.
