EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton is to meet top officials from the P5+1 group of world powers to discuss the bloc’s future talks with Iran.

Ashton is to host the meeting - to be attended by senior officials from the US, Britain, China, Russia, France and Germany - in Brussels next Tuesday to discuss "how to move forward in the Iran nuclear file,” said her spokesman Michael Mann.

“We are keen to make concrete progress in the talks (with Iran)," Reuters quoted him as saying.

Iran and the P5+1 have held several rounds of talks on a range of issues, with the main focus being on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The latest round of negotiations between the two sides was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 16. Two earlier meetings had also been held in the Kazakh city of Almaty on April 5-6 and February 26-27.

The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Tehran has categorically rejected the accusation, arguing that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities by the IAEA have never found any evidence showing that the Iranian nuclear energy program has been diverted toward non-civilian purposes.
