Iran's strategy based on rational interaction with world: Larijani
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 29, IRNA -- Iran's human rights strategy is based on rational and wise interaction with the world, Mohammad Javad Larijani,Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights Coucil of Judiciary Force said here Wednesday night.
He made the remarks in a talk with Iran's state TV, Channel 2.
'Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, is seeking to produce fabricated documents against the Islamic Republic.'
The official criticized the recent report by Shaheed, raising the question that why some western states should determine the framework of human rights for the international community.
'Globalization of human rights should not mean imposing of some countries' culture to the others; every country has its own patterns for human rights based on its national culture and beliefs; living like a faithful Muslim is every Muslims' right and this right should be protected and defended by the international community.'
Larijani added that Iran would continue positive interactions with the UN member-states, noting that western states should be responsible toward violation of woman's rights and widespread abuse of women in their western communities.
'Islamic teachings have taught us to respect all human beings including women; restrictions which Islam has brought to the Iranian women have not limited their progress forward and the Iranian women are educated and active elements of the present day Iranian society.'
Secretary general of the High Council for Human Rights underlined that the Islamic Republic has respect for all minority groups and if there have been some limitations on some Sufi groups, this is because of the fact that their activities have been against the national interests and the country's national security.
'Islamic Republic has been very tolerant with the 2009 presidential election street protesters and even those who were connected to the foreign intelligence services and were accused of killings and actions against the national security.'
Meanwhile, Iranian Ambassador to UN Mohammad Khaza'ie, too, dismissed the resolution against Tehran arguing that it is based on unconfirmed allegations and an attempt to meddle in the internal affairs of Iran.
He noted that the resolution has major obvious flaws in terms of “facts” and “concerns” it articulates.
'It is out of touch with realities of the Iranian society because of relying on websites and partial Media as the main source of information. It is overly heedless of the internal and indigenous mechanisms in protection and promotion of human rights. In the draft resolution, orthodox judgmental approach based on prejudice is employed and vigorously pursued, to the extent that remarkable efforts are made to build up negative image of the draft domestic penal code before its coming into force. Huge exaggeration and persistent focus on rights of one of the minorities in Iranian colorful society has been among the particularities of this draft resolution since its inception.'
The high-ranking official underlined that it is also reported by the reliable sources about the human rights situation in the US in recent years which refer to: 'the persecutions of the Occupy Wall Street movement activists, excessive use of force and cruel prison conditions, scores of men remained in indefinite military detention in Guantanamo... hundreds of people held in US military custody in the US detention facility on the Bagram airbase in Afghanistan etc. The US authorities blocked efforts to secure accountability and remedy for crimes under international law committed against detainees previously subjected to the USA’s secret detention and rendition program'.
A UN General Assembly committee on Tuesday, allegedly condemned Iran for widespread human rights abuses.
The resolution on Iran, which was drafted by Canada and co-sponsored by other Western countries, received 83 votes in favor, 31 against and 68 abstentions.
Both resolutions were passed by the 193-nation assembly's Third Committee, which focuses on human rights, and will be put to formal votes next month at plenary sessions of the General Assembly.
