Caspian Sea security needs no foreign presence, commander

Bandar Anzali, Gilan prov, Nov 27, IRNA -- Commander of the Fourth Fleet of Iran’s Navy Rear Admiral Khordad Hakimi said Tuesday that the littoral states of the Caspian Sea are capable of providing regional security therefore, there is no need for presence of any foreign troops.

The commander made the remarks while speaking to IRNA in this northern provincial port city on the occasion of the national Navy Day (November 27).

The Fourth Fleet of Iran’s Navy is positioned in the Caspian Sea waters with its Headquarters located in Bandar Anzali.

Referring to Iran’s oil platform in the Caspian Sea, Hakimi said his fleet is in charge of providing security of the facility which is located within the Iranian territorial waters.

The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth by area, variously classed as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea. It is bordered by Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan as well as Iran in the south.

The rear admiral referred to the Navy's Fourth Fleet as the “messenger of peace and friendship for the Caspian Sea littoral states.”
