Top Commander: US drone had violated Iranian airspace
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 11, IRNA -- Acting Commander of Islamic Republic Guard Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Sunday the Iranian military has fired on the US drone which had violated Iranian airspace over territorial waters.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Iranian missile expert Brigadier Tehrani Moqaddam.
Salami dismissed the US officials claim that Iran fired on the drone in international waters and said Iranian armed forces are well aware of all international rules and regulations and well know that when and how to react to any foreign aggression on borders in case of being violated.
Pentagon spokesman said last week Iranian warplanes fired at an unarmed US drone in international airspace as a warning last week but did not hit the aircraft.
Pentagon spokesman George Little said the aircraft fired multiple rounds at the Predator drone and followed it for at least several miles as it moved farther away from Iranian airspace.
