Iran opposes US missile shield in Persian Gulf

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Kuala Lumpur, April 6, IRNA -- The Islamic Republic of Iran on Friday strongly opposed deployment of the US missile shield in the Persian Gulf region, Non-Aligned News Agency reported on Friday.

Iran has deterred its neighbors to avoid joining the US missile shield in the Persian Gulf region, said the news agency.

Iran’s Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi warned that the plan is jointly run by the US and the Zionist regime which requires the vigilance of all countries and any individual, who might cooperate with them in fact help them implement the plan, according to the news agency.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been opposing the plan since the beginning, believing that it jeopardizes the security of the region, the news agency quoted the minister as saying, adding that Tehran also advises its friends to avoid it.

Washington tries to imply that Iran is a serious threat to the countries in the Persian Gulf region, mainly the Arab states, but the Arab states rule out the claim, it said.

The US officials have declared that they back the six members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council by setting up the defense shield against Iran, pointed out the news agency.

Iran has called the move as source of insecurity for the entire region, said Non-Aligned News Agency.
