Tehran, April 5, IRNA -- Head of Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Baghdad is a suitable venue for holding nuclear talks between Iran and Group 5+1 (the five permanent members of UN Security Council plus Germany).
Boroujerdi made the remarks in n interview with IRNA’s parliamentary correspondent in Tehran on Thursday.
He noted that the Iraqi officials have welcomed hosting Iran-G5+1 talks.
“Iraq managed to drive out the US troops from that country in 2012.Furthermore, Iraq is holding the rotating chairmanship of the Arab League and the recent summit of Arab League was held in Baghdad,” Boroujerdi added.
The lawmaker pointed out that Iraq is a suitable venue for holding Iran-Group 5+1 talks because of its strategic and geopolitical status, as well as it friendly relations with Iran.
He noted that Iraq has good relations with Group 5+1 and if some of Group 5+1 member-states are against the negotiations to be held in Iraq, Iran will go after other options for holding the talks.
“It goes without saying that Asian countries have higher chances for becoming the venue of talks,” Boroujerdi added.
