Tehran Says Venue For Nuclear Talks Not Yet Chosen

April 04, 2012

Iran says a venue for proposed nuclear talks with world powers has not yet been chosen.

On March 31, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said talks on Tehran's nuclear program would be held on April 13 and April 14 in Istanbul.

Iranian officials are meant to meet with representatives from the so-called P5+1 bloc, comprising the five UN Security Council members -- the United States, Britain, China, France, Russia -- and Germany.

But Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on April 4 that China and Iraq also could be venues.

Earlier, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said Iranians had proposed a meeting in Baghdad.

On April 3, Russia said it was unclear when or where the talks would take place.

The meeting would be the first since January 2011 when delegates failed to agree on an agenda.
