TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian "Younes" submarine, sent to international sea, returned home on Tuesday.
"Younes" dispatched to international waters in April, is the first Iranian locally-made submarine experiencing presence in high seas.
It passed across Oman Sea, North of India Ocean, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea and managed to identify and intercept surface vessels and subsurface float of different countries within area of its mission during its 66-day operation.
An Iranian maritime official Hossein Hariri said, "presence of the submarine in high seas proved that Iranian navy not only can work strategically on surface level but also it is capable on subsurface level as well."
"The upgraded systems used during mission were tested successfully and presence of the submarine in international waters elevated self-confidence of the Islamic Republic of Iran and demonstrated its might," he continued.
