Russia irked by new US anti-Iran sanctions

Moscow, June 24, IRNA -- Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement issued on Friday strongly questioned the new US sanctions imposed on three Iranian companies.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry, a decision by American officials regarding imposing new sanctions on three Iranian companies; 'Tide Water Middle East', 'Iran Air', and 'Iran Air Tours' on the false pretext of their involvement in activities undermining the non-proliferation treaty (NPT) has raised serious questions before the international public opinion.

The ministry said that the US sanctions have had a negative effect on the authority of the UN Security Council.

It also said that the US move had strengthened the suspicion that the US sanction policy was pursuing other goals apart from maintaining the non-proliferation regime.

'This position is absolutely inadmissible for US. It needs a total review,' the statement said.
