Tehran, June 4, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that the regional revolutions are distinguished by Islamic, popular and anti-American features.
“Islamic, anti-US, anti-Zionism, and popular are the three distinguished features of popular movements in the region. The distinctions are fully clear especially in the illuminating revolution of the Egyptian nation. The Islamic Republic of Iran will side any movement observed with such features anywhere; however, if we see that the US-Zionist provocation is at work, we will not side the movement because we are confident that the big Satan and its allies do not work in favor of nations,” said Ayatollah Khamenei in an address to large groups of people mourning on the 22nd departure anniversary of founder of the Islamic Republic and father of the Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini here at the Imam Khomeini Mausoleum on Saturday.
Elaborating more on the extensive Islamic awakening movement in North Africa and the region, including Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, Ayatollah Khamenei said each of the events should be analyzed from its own angle. “When a nation is awakened and felt powerful and capable, nothing will prevent its victory. The colonial system, the big Satan and blood-soaking Zionists try to prevent ultimate victory of nations; but if nations get awakened and observe patience and resistance on Quran’s call and believe in the divine promises, they will undeniably be victorious.”
On Libya, the Supreme Leader said the West’s policy on Libya is based on establishing a weak and feeble state. “Libya is an important country with rich oil resources, lying next to Europe. The West wants to fan a civil war there to weaken it so as to control it directly or indirectly afterwards.”
On Yemen, Ayatollah Khamenei said conditions in Yemen are similar to Libya’s. “People of Bahrain are absolutely oppressed and the West and its allies try to attribute Shiite feature to the movement of the Bahraini people so as to introduce the movement as an ethnic-based one. Majority of the Bahraini people have of course been Shiite throughout history but the point is that the problem with Bahrain is neither the Shiite nor Sunni one. Rather, (the point is that) the oppressed nation want their basic rights, namely the voting right and contribution to formation of government, be restored.”
The Paramount Leader said Americans, the “liars and swindlers”, are actively involved in suppression of the Bahraini people despite all their claims of advocating human rights and democracy. “Of course, they (Americans) claim Saudis have gone to Bahrain, whereas all know that Saudis could not do such a thing (suppress the Bahraini people) without Americans’ permission. Due to the same reason, Americans are responsible for Bahrain events.”
Ayatollah Khamenei called on regional and North African nations to be vigilant against the West’s gestures. “The superficially humanitarian assistance of the US is possible through rule over nations. Regional people, especially Egyptian nation, that are inheritor of rich Islamic-cultural assets, should be watchful against enemy.
Lauding “highly valuable” move of the Egyptian people in the case of Palestine, Gaza and Rafah crossing, Ayatollah Khamenei said such moves should be continued so that goals of the Egyptian revolution are fully materialized under God’s grace.
Ayatollah Khamenei said Islamic awakening is an epic that the late Imam Khomeini waited for, predicting it alike the former Soviet Union’s collapse.
The Ayatollah said the late Imam’s school of thought represents a collection stemming from Islamism, spirituality, rationality and justice.
“Rationality and wisdom of the Imam had led him to the conclusion that the least leniency towards enemy and retreat from stances would embolden the enemy to proceed with its goals,” said Ayatollah Khamenei, warning, “If we deprive some segments of society from security only because of loyalty to the revolution and only on the ground of political strife, we would have gone astray of the Imam’s school of thought.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said Imam’s school of thought saved the Iranian nation from dangerous bottlenecks over the past 32 years, improving Iranians’ international dignity and reputation.
“The Imam made the nation understand that they are the owner of this country,” declared the Ayatollah.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said enemies falsely imagined that the late Imam’s death would be a prelude to the collapse of Iran’s holy establishment, while the Imam’s funeral and the public’s overwhelming support for the Experts Assembly’s following movement annulled the enemies’ wishes.
The Paramount Leader then touched on the post-vote events in 2009, particularly what happened on the days of Quds and Ashura, saying the people’s strong support nullified the uproar.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to Iranian scientists’ active contribution that helped Iran’s placement among the world’s first top states in terms of progress in key and decisive branches of science.
Switching to Palestine, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “They (enemies) wished to wipe Palestine off the world map, while they were mistaken. Palestine will remain and will not be eliminated. It would not be partitioned either’, stressing it belongs to the world of Islam and Muslims.
The US-brokered solutions on Palestine are futile, said the Supreme Leader, adding that the solution to the problem is exactly what the Islamic Republic of Iran set forth over the past few years. “It (the solution) is the regime which will rule on entire Palestine should be decided on Palestinian public votes.”
More on Palestine, Ayatollah Khamenei said once the government, favored by the public, is established, Palestinians will decide on the Zionists coming to the country from outside.
