TEHRAN (ISNA)-A senior Iranian Army Commander said the country is to perform a massive military drill with presence of observers from regional countries.

"The Army Ground Force is to stage a massive military exercise in 2011 and we plan to invite regional countries to take part in the maneuver", Commander of Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters on Tuesday.

"We plan to expand our regional cooperation and communication with neighboring countries and we want them to welcome our invitation," he noted adding, "the regional countries will primarily take part in the military exercise as observers and they will join the drills after required steps were taken."

Pourdastan then referred to readiness of Iranian Army's Ground Force Peacekeeping Units which are well-organized and said that, "they are planed to be dispatched to other nations considered by the United Nations."

"The relation between neighboring countries' armies leads to their awareness of their own capabilities in establishing regional security," he continued.

The commander stressed that cooperation between army forces of different countries and holding joint drills not only makes the countries know about other potentials, but also makes them believe that they can establish regional security without presence of foreign countries.

Referring to the recent naval drill in Iran in which some foreign representatives participated, Pourdastan said that some actions have been done to achieve the aforementioned goal.
