TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran successfully test fired air defense system and two missiles as it is preparing to mark National Day of Army.
"Mersad" air defense system and "Shahin" missiles were included in the country's air defense systems.
An Iranian army commander Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili said on Sunday the missiles hit the designated targets.
He congratulated Iranian nation on successful test-fire of the missiles and defense system and said, "Mersad missile is an entirely-indigenous achievement made by Iranian Defense Industries and became operational in all of air defense system units to boost their combat capabilities."
The system is able to detect, intercept and annihilate any flying target up to 150 kilometers away, he added.
It is regarded as systems with mid height.
In recent years, Iran has made major progresses in defense domain and achieved self-sufficiency in building major military equipment, systems and devices.
Also in 2010, Iran unveiled its first locally-built long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
