Bushehr power plant to go critical soon: Salehi

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 9, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Saturday that Bushehr power plant reactor will go critical between May 5-10.

Addressing a joint press conference attended by his Uruguayan counterpart Luis Almagro, he announced that reloading of Bushehr nuclear power plant as of Friday, April 8.

Rejecting allegations on Tehran's interference in the domestic affairs of regional countries, Salehi stressed that the Islamic Republic pursues a non-interference foreign policy.

Iran’s official political stands regarding the recent regional developments are crystal clear, he said, adding, “We have remained committed to our principle and that is non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.”

The Islamic Republic has only condemned use of violence against defenseless people, he said, reiterating that the legitimate demands of the Bahraini people should be addressed.

Salehi further stressed that the Saudi government has taken a wrong stance by sending military forces to Bahrain, urging Riyadh to withdraw troops from the crisis-hit Bahrain.

He also called on regional countries to hold consultations on the ongoing regional developments in order to help solve issues through diplomatic channels.

On Iran-Group 5+1 talks, the Iranian foreign minister said the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has written a letter to Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, the response of which is being prepared by the latter.

He reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is always ready for bilateral talks.
