IRI Navy Commander ends Syrian visit

Damascus, March 1, IRNA -- Commander of Islamic Republic of Iran Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and his accompanying delegation left Damascus Monday night at end of their six day professional visit.

According to IRNA correspondent in Damascus, The Iranian Navy chief was seen off by Syrian Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Ali Slaim, IRI Deputy Ambassador Seyyed Moussa Alizadeh Tabataba’ie and Iran’s Military Attaché to Syria Mohammad Zamanian.

The objective of Admiral Sayyari’s visit of Syria was participation at the arrival ceremony of Alvand and Khark warships at Lazeqiyyeh Port in the west of Syria.

The ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon in the presence of the two countries' top political and military officials.

The 1,500 ton Alvand Warship, equipped with thunderbolt throwers and ship to ship missiles and the 33,000 ton Khark logistical and fuel carrier ship, capable of carrying 250 sailors and three helicopters arrived in Mediterranean waters on Tuesday after passing through the Suez Canal.

A Training Cooperation Protocol was signed aboard Khark warship between the navy commanders of the two countries during the visit.

The Iranian Navy chief had assured the reporters that the two Iranian ships upon arrival that the ships were carrying a peace message for the entire countries.

Rear Admiral Sayyari also noted before departing Damascus that the visit had nothing to do with the ongoing unrests in some Arab countries, as some western analysts and some Zionist officials had baselessly assumed, but improving of both countries professional naval capabilities was definitely in the agenda of the visit.

He added that the enemies’ threats have no effect on the process of the Iranian armed forces rapid progress, since the Islamic Revolution of Iran is a grand a dynamic movement and it keeps paving its righteous path regardless of the antagonist stands, obstacles and developments of any possible nature.
