Boroujerdi reaffirms Iran's strong opposition to nuclear bomb

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, March 6, IRNA -- The Chairman of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee of Majlis Alaeddin Boroujerdi reiterated his country's firm and steadfast opposition to having a nuclear bomb.

"We are seriously opposing a nuclear bomb," Boroujerdi said in remarks to media representatives at the Iranian Embassy in Berlin on Friday.

We are supporting a "world free of nuclear weapons," he added.

Boroujerdi stressed that the existence of even one nuclear bomb would "threaten the world."

He warned that the existence of global nuclear weapons could lead to a "repeat of the catastrophe in Nagasaki and Hiroshima."

The Iran lawmaker made clear however that his country would pursue its peaceful nuclear program under the supervision of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He stated again that the recent IAEA report certified that Iran's nuclear program had not been diverted for other purposes.
