Iran, Syria sign agreements on scientific cooperation

Tehran, Jan 28, IRNA -- Iran and Syria signed an agreement on scientific and technology cooperation here on Wednesday.
According to a report by Public Relations Department of Science, Research and Technology Ministry, the deal inked by Iran's deputy minister, Ali Reza Jahangirian and Syrian deputy minister of higher education for academic and research affairs, Najib Abdulwahed highlights collaboration in the fields of biotechnology, earthquake engineering and laser.
Referring to the ten-year history of Iran-Syria scientific relations, Jahangirian said that the two countries are interested in upgrading cooperation in all fields.
He further hoped that agreements made will be implemented within six months.
Abdulwahed, for his part, stressed his country’s interest in expanding scientific and research cooperation with Iran.
He was also optimistic that the agreements will be fully materialized and third meeting of Iran-Syria Committee will convene byl September to review the trend of progress and new proposals.
Delegation of Syrian higher education officials arrived in Tehran Sunday to pursue the agreements reached in the first meeting.
