Iran-US-Sobhaninia
Deputy head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Hossein Sobhaninia said here Saturday that the identity of the Americans willing to talk with Iran should be made clear.
"Non-governmental American groups have recently shown willingness for talks with Iran and their identity should be made revealed," Sobhaninia said.
Speaking on the optimistic side, he said that the groups can help bring stances of the two countries' political decision-makers closer to each other and help inform the sides of their problems.
He added that before any talks, the intention of groups calling for dialogue and also the information they seek to gain as well as their political affiliation should be clarified.
"The move is not negative in nature," said the lawmaker, adding that talks with non-government groups can be positive if they were aimed at clarifying ambiguities.
"The US government should accept realities and talk with Iran on a fair basis," he noted.
To prove its goodwill, the US should release Iran's blocked assets and avoid piling up pressure and sanctions on Iran, taking the rights of Iranian nation into consideration, he declared.
Sobhaninia said that negotiations are a means for shedding ambiguities and is a well-established mechanism worldwide.
All groups for talks with the US people should be prepared, said the parliamentarian, adding that recently, a number of US scientific figures came to Iran on an invitation by Iranian president to visit scientific centers. This shows growing relations between Iranian and US groups and professions, he added.
Expansion of relations between Iran and the US should be based on political goals and the background of negotiation parties, concluded Sobhaninia.
