Aqazadeh: 1st phase of nuclear rod production complex to come on stream

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Reza Aqazadeh said here Wednesday that the construction of 40-megawatt Arak reactor is in progress and its first phase for production of nuclear rods and fuel will become operational by the year end.
Aqazadeh told reporters after visiting the Exclusive Exhibition on nuclear Industry Achievements that Arak heavy water project is now operating with full capacity and good progress has been made in onstruction of its 40-megawatt reactor.
Asked when nuclear fuel rod manufacturing complex will become operational, Aqazadeh said one of the projects, whose first will come on stream by the year end, is the Fuel Manufacturing Plant (FMP).
He noted that the first product of the FMP is fuel for the 40-megawatt Arak reactor.
He said Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facilities (UCF) too operate over their capacity and that "over the past few years we have had very good production."
"I hope that supply of fuel to Bushehr nuclear power plant will start if Russians do not break their promises," said Aqazadeh.
"We hope that Bushehr power plant will start generating electricity as of 2009."
