Soltanieh: Safeguards implementation should follow normal course
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 24, IRNA
Iran's IAEA envoy Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said here Wednesday that Tehran will respond to remaining questions on its nuclear issue if Safeguards implementation follows its normal course.
"Only if the Safeguards implementation becomes normal in Iran, the Islamic Republic will, on the basis of comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and like other member countries, respond to the remaining questions," Soltanieh told the IAEA Board of Governors.
Soltanieh said that based on the Plan of Action, the alleged studies are over, so the Safeguards implementation in Iran should follow its routine process.
Given the detailed answers offered by Iran, the IAEA is now in a position to declare the non-authenticity, baselessness and forgery of documents pertaining to alleged studies and announce the case closed, thus normalizing Safeguards implementation in Iran in accordance with Plan of Action.
"Evidently, there is no reliable and actual evidence and Iran too reciprocally completely fulfilled its commitments."
On the other hand, he said, trust and mutual confidence among member countries and between member countries and the Secretariat is really in danger and on this basis, the reputation and the Agency's integrity is seriously at stake.
Asked what should be done so that everything will follow its proper course, Soltanieh said, "The Agency is in a position to implement the last part of Plan of Action, which calls for normalization of Safeguards implementation in Iran, because all measures envisioned in the Plan of Action have completely been implemented."
