Qashqavi urges IAEA not to be influenced by pressures

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi on Monday voiced Iran's readiness to continue cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog in the context of the Safeguards Agreement.

Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he said the International Atomic Energy Agency should not be influenced by foreign pressures, particularly by the US.

"We expect the agency to adopt legal approach toward Iran's peaceful nuclear program," he added.

"We know that the pressures increase when the issues are going to be resolved. Therefore, we urge the agency to maintain its legal approach disregard of any foreign pressures," Qashqavi added.

For any evaluation over the new IAEA report, Tehran would wait until the report is published, he said.

The IAEA is to publish its latest report on Iran's nuclear program this afternoon, sources close to the agency said Sunday.

According to those sources, it was "possible but not certain" that the agency would publish the document on Monday.

The latest report comes after repeated talks between IAEA deputy chief Olli Heinonen and Iranian officials in Tehran in August.

The IAEA has been monitoring Iran's nuclear activities for four years.
