Bushehr power plant to become operational in early 2009: envoy

Russian Ambassador to Tehran Alexander Sadovnikov said on Saturday that Bushehr nuclear power plant will become operational in early 2009.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said all phases of the power plant will be tested by the year end.

Moscow is seriously determined to complete and put into operation the Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said, adding that it will fulfill all its commitments regarding the plant.

The Iranian nation will witness generation of electricity by Bushehr power plant early next year, he said.

He reiterated that delay in operation of the project will not benefit Moscow since it should bear more expenses.

The Russian ambassador further stressed that the delay in construction of the Bushehr power plant was due to lack of cooperation on part of certain countries in providing Iran with parts and machinery.

Due to high sensitivity of the work in Bushehr power plant, the Russian side has always been keen to work at the highest standard level, he added.

Russia has always had a schedule for completion of the power plant but work upon the schedule has been sometimes out of its control, Sadovnikov noted.
