Substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami here Friday dismissed claims that Iran sponsors terrorism.
"Over last week we have been witnessing the vain and worn-out allegations of the west, led by the US, that Iran supports terrorism; We announce here, "How can Iran, which has itself been a victim of terrorism, accept such an allegation," said Ayatollah Khatami, who is a member of the presiding board of the Experts Assembly, in his sermon to this week's Friday prayers congregation at Tehran University.
Ayatollah Khatami said the US is only thinking of Muslims genocide. "Evidence in Muslim states support the claim that the US is only thinking on Muslims genocide; and due to the same reason it fully supports water, electricity and food cuts in Gaza as well as massacre of innocent Shiites in Iraqi Sadr City," said Khatami.
He questioned the US double-standards on human rights and said the US and Israel are in ending stage of their life.
"Why does the US, that claims supporting human rights, not let issuance of even a line of a resolution against usurper Israel at the UN?" asked Ayatollah Khatami.
Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Khatami thanked people for their high turn-out in the 8th Majlis run off elections on April 25 and asked the candidates leading their way to Majlis to be at services of the masses and try to solve their problems.
He also urged the newly elected MPs to close their ranks.
