Iran's Army powerful deterrent to enemies: president

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 17, IRNA
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that Iran's Army was a powerful deterrent to all enemies.

He made the remarks during a ceremony held held at the mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, in southern Tehran, on the occasion of the National Army Day.

Iran has the bravest and divine army of the world, said the president adding that the country's armed forces and its army manifest resistance and values of the Iranian nation today and serve as a powerful stronghold to defend Iranians' dignity.

"Today is the birthday of the best, dearest and most honorable army of the world. Iran's army has joined a divine leadership," President Ahmadinejad told a military parade held on the occasion.

Exemplary air, ground and sea units of Iran's Army staged a parade during the ceremony which was also attended by high-ranking commanders and officials of the armed forces.

Referring to the efforts of armed forces during the eight-year of Iraq's imposed war against Iran (1980-1988), Ahmadinejad said, "Iran's Army defended the country with bare hands against severest aggression of the arrogance by relying on the courage of its personnel and commanders.

"Army is in the heart of the Iranian nation," said the president stressing that over 48,000 wartime martyrs of the Army have indicated the force's courage and endurance.

The president also hailed self-confidence and innovation of the Iranian army personnel and officials noting that the army has successfully provided all its needs relying on domestic capabilities.

To show the power of its air force, a large number of Iran's Army jet fighters and other aircraft conducted a major fly-by over the parade ground earlier on Thursday.
