Three 164-machine cascades for a total of 3,000 second series centrifuges are operating in Natanz, said an informed official on Friday.
The official told IRNA on condition of anonymity that the centrifuges are the P1 generation devices.
Earlier reports said 18 164-machine arrays of 3,000 P1 generation centrifuges are busy doing the uranium enrichment work in Natanz.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the National Nuclear Technology Festival on Tuesday that operations have started for installation of 6,000 P1 generation centrifuges.
He said the country has produced new generation of centrifuges that will be capable of working five times the P1 generation ones and research work on the project will come to an end by the next two to three months.
