The performance of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) undermines the status of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Monday.

Mottaki made the remark in a meeting with the visiting Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, adding that UNSC has had improper performance in dealing with the crises in Lebanon and Palestine. He added that the council not only violates the rights of Palestinian and Lebanon nations, but also neglects realities in its decision-making and insists on its double-standard attitude.

According to the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mottaki referred to the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against civilian people in Gaza.

He added that the West has adopted a meaningful silence on the genocide in Palestine which has encouraged violence against innocent people.

Expressing serious concern about the violation of human rights in Europe, Mottaki said that Iran is worried about the situation of Muslims imprisoned in certain European countries.

Calmy-Rey, heading a delegation, is in Tehran for a two-day visit to confer with Iranian officials.

In a meeting with her Iranian counterpart, they exchanged views on cooperation at bilateral, regional and international levels, particularly in the fields of energy, nuclear energy and human rights.

She further said that her country attaches importance to nergy supplies, calling for expansion of Iran-Switzerland economic ties, particularly in energy sector.
