Adoption of a new resolution against Iran by the UN Security Council would damage credibility of the UN nuclear watchdog, Iran's Representative to the UN, Mohammad Khazaei, said on Monday.

Speaking during a press conference attended by over 20 foreign reporters, Khazaei said if the credibility of the International Atomic Energy Agency is undermined by the Security Council, then "the big question would be that in future which credible agency is going to monitor nuclear activities of world countries?"

Stressing that Iran has resolved all outstanding questions raised by the IAEA so far, Khazaei said, "We believe that from the legal point of view, there is no basis for considering Iran's nuclear program at the Security Council."

The IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei released a report on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities on February 22 verifying the non-diversion of Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

He said that the agency has "made good progress in clarifying the outstanding issues that had to do with Iran's past nuclear activities.

"We have managed to clarify all the remaining outstanding issues, which is the scope and nature of Iran's enrichment program," the IAEA chief said in the 11-page report presented to the agency's Board of Governors.

Khazaei stressed that members of the UNSC are now facing a complicated situation as on the one hand, they are concerned over the IAEA credibility, and on the other, they see that Iran's cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog has been far beyond its commitments.

Khazaei stressed that if the Security Council decided to punish a country that had close cooperation with the IAEA, then this would affect cooperation of other agency's member states.

However, Khazaei stressed that if a third resolution be adopted by the UNSC for any reason, Iran would not consider it as logical as it would be based on allegations and not the IAEA report.

He reiterated that Tehran's policy is to continue its transparent cooperation with the IAEA.

The envoy stressed that implementation of the IAEA Safeguards would return to its normal situation in Iran following the IAEA latest report.

He added that the case of Iran peaceful nuclear activities should become a normal issue on the IAEA agenda.
