Vaeedi: Perseverance over nuclear rights key to independence

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 24, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Vaeedi
Deputy Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Javad Vaeedi said here Sunday that vigilant perseverance in materializing the country's nuclear rights is the key to national independence.

"Yesterday, presence in battle fronts was the means to guarantee national independence and today, wise perseverance over materialization of the country's nuclear rights is the key to independence," said Vaeedi in an address to a seminar on Iran's nuclear issue.

Vaeedi said the most important achievement of Iran's perseverance has been its saying `no' to global arrogance.

Elsewhere in his address, Vaeedi said anybody studying IAEA reports since 2003, now understands well the value of the new report.

He said in the past reports, the IAEA constantly said that Iran has problems in such issues as Gachine mine, polonium 210, plutonium, dual-purpose purchases, the P1 and P2 centrifuges.

Therefore, he added, those seeing the reports can now understand the legal value of the new report.

He added that ElBaradei's new report testifies Iran's indigenous technical progress in the nuclear domain, showing that all US claims have been false.

"The G5+1 envoy announced explicitly in talks that we were not willing to see Iran in the position that it is now," he added.

Also pointing to Saadabad statement, Iran's voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, and to temporary and voluntary enrichment suspension by the country, Vaeedi said, "In those days, they (westerners) were not prepared to accept that we have 20 centrifuges for research works. Besides, they asked us in Paris to end all our enrichment activities."

He said that the suspension, which was to be for two to three months on voluntary basis, lasted for two and half years. "Eventually, on August 5, 2005, they proposed scrapping nuclear devices." He added, "They (westerners) asked us to scrap all our nuclear equipment. The dismantling doctrine was not basically due to the West's concern about (Iran's peaceful) nuclear program."

He said, "From their standpoint, any country claiming to have inspiring effect, runs on the basis of religion and seeks justice and independence, should not be after nuclear technology. In their (westerners') view, such a country is not in the position to generate science or specialization let alone acquire nuclear technology." Elsewhere in his remarks, Vaeedi said that 3,000 centrifuges are doing uranium enrichment in Iran's Natanz today and the country is working on new generation of centrifuges.

Moreover, Iran possesses 82 tons of basic fuel for Bushehr nuclear power plant, said Vaeedi, adding that customarily, the power plant should be operational in six to seven months after fuel delivery.

Furthermore, he added, Iranian experts are building a 360-megawatt power plant in Darkhoein, Khuzestan province.
