ECONOMIC HIGHLIGHTS, THURSDAY, AUGUST 27
(Iran Air penalty) (200) IRANIAN AIRLINE DENIED LICENSED U.S. EXPORTS Washington -- Iran Air has been denied access to controlled U.S. exports and has been fined for violations of U.S. export-control regulations, the Department of Commerce has announced.
The department announced August 27 that the Iranian airline has been denied all U.S. export privileges for 24 months and ordered to pay $100,000, the maximum civil penalty.
If payment is made in full within 30 days, 21 months of the 24-month denial period will be suspended, the department said.
Although Iran Air has appealed to a U.S. court to delay the denial order, the court has not acted; therefore, the order is in effect, the department said.
The order denying export privileges to Iran Air, to be published in the August 28 Federal Register, will prohibit shipment to the airline of any exports requiring a U.S. license, including service for U.S.-manufactured aircraft and U.S.-made airplane parts.
According to Commerce, the violation occurred in October 1985 when Iran Air exported signal generators from Germany to Iran without the required U.S. re-export authorization.
