India stresses global sharing mechanism to deal with terrorism

New Delhi, Dec 4, IRNA – India on Friday stressed the need for improved intelligence gathering and global sharing mechanism to deal with terrorism.
Describing terrorism as a "worldwide operation”, President Pratibha Patil Friday stressed global sharing mechanism to deal with the menace.
"The exposure of innocent civilian population to random incidents of violence has increased, as terrorists have adopted more audacious and more insidious methods....
"Terrorism is not a limited threat; it is a worldwide operation. Today, many countries in the East and in the West, in the North and in the South, have been the targets of the nefarious designs of terrorists," Patil said during the inauguration of a two-day Global Security Conference in New Delhi.
She said terrorism is an ideology born out of hatred and has a deep impact on the people's lives and "an effective response to it would require a concerted, coordinated and cooperative effort by all governments and by all citizens of the world who seek peace and development."
Patil said it is a fallacy to think that any country or society can be immune to terror attacks. "It is an ideology born out of hatred and its adherents belong to no religion, culture or civilisation," the President said.
She said the global compact against terrorism needs to be strengthened and "at the operational level, improved intelligence gathering, surveillance systems and intelligence sharing are essential steps."
Patil said the objective should be to work together in such a collective and unified manner, that the terrorists can get no leeway or support or encouragement from any quarter.
"The sustenance line of terrorists must be completely dried up. Every state has a responsibility to deal firmly and immediately with any person or group in its territory involved in any manner with terrorism, be it training, financing, operating, indoctrinating, facilitating or masterminding acts of terror anywhere in the world," she said.
Patil said nations also would need to strengthen their own structures to deal with terrorism. "India, which has been a victim of terrorism for more than two decades, has taken steps to strengthen laws and institutions to respond to such attacks. We will continue to keep this issue under constant review and take appropriate measures," she said.
Participants from over 20 countries, including the UK, the US, Pakistan, Israel will be attending the events organised by Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) and the Association of Private Detectives and Investigators (APDI).
During the program, the President unveiled the 'logo' of 'secure the girl child' program, an initiative targeted at providing socio-economic support to the girl child of security guards, covering their education and marriage costs.
CAPSI (Central Association of Private Security Industry) and APDI (Association of Private Detectives & Investigators) have come together to host this event of global proportions.
The Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) and The Association of Private Detectives and Investigators (APDI) are the apex National Body for the respective industry, viz Security and investigation. CAPSI and APDI were formed to bring the Private Security and Investigation industry together to one platform and have greatly succeeded in doing so.
