U.S. Envoy Holds 'Productive' Talks With North Korean Officials
February 24, 2012
The U.S. envoy for the North Korean nuclear dispute has given an upbeat assessment of his talks so far in Beijing with a North Korean negotiator.
Glyn Davies said he had "productive" talks with North Korean envoy Kim Kye Gwan late on February 24.
"We had a very productive dinner conversation that was a mix of a continuation of discussion about the substance of the issues from our two daytime sessions, and then a little bit of less formal discussion, to talk about some of the broader issues," Davies said.
The talks in Beijing are the Obama administration's latest effort to gauge whether Pyongyang's new leadership is willing to curb its nuclear activities and return to disarmament negotiations.
Analyst have said that no major breakthrough is expected.
