Taipei, Dec. 19 (CNA) Taiwan's agency tasked with handling matters related to China declined Monday to comment on whether the death of North Korea leader Kim Jong ll will affect cross-Taiwan Strait relations.
The Cabinet-level Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), the top planner for Taiwan's China policy, told CNA by telephone that as the matter is not immediately related to Chinese affairs, the council had no comment.
The Straits Exchange Foundation, the quasi-official body that handles cross-Taiwan Strait affairs, also declined to respond to the news of Kim's death.
The statements came hours after media quoted North Korea's official news agency as saying that Kim had died at the age of 69 Dec. 17. Kim is said to have suffered a stroke in 2008. (By Christie Chen) ENDITEM/J
