o Kim Jong-il visited the command of the Combined Forces 630 (according to a February 1 report) and the Wonpyeong Daeheung Fisheries Enterprise in Geumya-gun (according to a February 3 report). In a Rodong Sinmun political column titled ‘We Firmly Believe in Our Victory’, North Korea called for proactive participation from its citizens for ‘the creation of a strong and prosperous socialist nation.’

[Outside North Korea]

o On February 5, North Korea released Robert Park, a detained US citizen, reporting that, “The authorities concerned generously forgave him and decided to set him free in consideration of the fact that he admitted his act and repented for it.”

[Inter-Korean Issues]

o Regarding the results of the inter-Korean working-level meeting on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, North Korea highlighted the wage issue, saying that an increase in workers’ wages was a matter demanding an immediate solution.
