Pyongyang, February 24 (KCNA) -- A meeting of officials in the field of land and environmental conservation was held at the People's Palace of Culture Tuesday.

Present there were Premier Kim Yong Il, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Choe Thae Bok, members of the Cabinet, officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations, officials of party and power organs of provinces, cities and counties and those in the field of land and environmental conservation and relevant sectors.

Vice-Premier O Su Yong made a report at the meeting which was followed by speeches.

The reporter and speakers referred to the fact that the Party's policy on mobilization of the whole country for land management fully displayed its validity and vitality last year.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il clearly indicated the tasks and ways for improving and strengthening the work for land management while providing field guidance to the National Nursery of the Ministry of Land and Environmental Conservation, industrial establishments, cooperative farms and units of the Korean People's Army, they stressed.

They noted that all the people turned out in a dynamic drive to turn their native places and worksites into a socialist fairyland.

Hundreds of millions of trees of good species were planted and new roads were paved and technologically updated to more rationally form the road network across the country last year.

Projects for protecting dikes and river embankments and projects for repairing tide-water control dykes were carried out to create conditions for preventing flood damage and tidal wave damage and doing safer farming. And a turn was brought about in the work to spruce up streets and villages and increase the natural resources of the country.

The reporter and speakers stressed that the achievements made in last year's land management are the precious fruition of the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

They underscored the need to dynamically push forward the work to add to the beautiful landscape of the country this year, true to the Party's plan for land development.
