Kim Jong Il Watches Volleyball Match

Pyongyang, January 28 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il watched the volleyball match held between the "April 25" Team of the KPA and a volleyball selection on the occasion of the lunar New Year.

When he appeared on the grandstand, all the spectators enthusiastically welcomed him, offering him lunar New Year greetings representing the unanimous reverence of all the servicepersons and people for him.

The two teams played an excellent game by fully displaying the technique they have tirelessly cultivated in their day-to-day trainings true to the sports policy of the WPK.

The "April 25" team beat the selection in the match.

After watching the game, he expressed great satisfaction over the splendid match the revolutionary and militant volleyball players played by fully displaying the might of the ideological, fighting spirit, speed and technical battle and congratulated them on their success.

He said that to develop sports is a very important work of great significance not only in successfully pushing ahead with the revolutionary struggle and construction to augment the might of the country but in boosting the friendly ties with different countries of the world.

Sports have become popular and a part of people's daily life in our country and as a result all of them are fully prepared for labor and national defence and our sportspersons have achieved shining successes in international games, fully demonstrating the honor of Juche Korea and the spirit of the Korean people, he noted, adding that these admirable achievements are a clear proof of the validity and great vitality of the WPK's sports policy.

He set forth highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines for rapidly developing the sports of the country, underscoring the need to round off the Korean-style sports technique and tactical system and training methods to put the sports technique on a higher level.

Among the spectators were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Jang Song Thaek and Kim Yang Gon, department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Ki Ryong, director general of the Korean Central News Agency, Cha Sung Su, chairman of the Central Broadcasting Committee of Korea, and other leading officials, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae, Kim Myong Guk and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army.
