Rodong Sinmun on Popular Policies of DPRK

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- Under the socialist system of the DPRK to provide benefits for the promotion of people's well-being is the supreme principle of the Workers' Party of Korea and state activities and popular policies are widely enforced in various fields of social life.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday stresses this in a signed article.
The popular policies enforced in the socialist system of the DPRK are equally applicable to everyone regardless of his or her labor, it notes, and says:
Among the major popular policies are the free and compulsory education system, the universal free medical care system, the system of educating and upbringing children, the system of free accommodation at sanatoria and holiday homes, the provision of food, clothes and houses at state expenses, and the total repeal of tax system.
Children and youths study to their hearts' content at schools of various levels built across the country, including nurseries, kindergartens, primary and middle schools and colleges and universities.
In the DPRK the state takes care of the people's health with full responsibility for it. Under this public health system any citizen can get medical examination, experimental check-up, treatment and operation, hospitalization and the medicine without payment. Even costs for round trip to sanitarium are borne by the state.
The state supplies food to workers and office workers and their families and uniforms, shoes and various school things to all the children and pupils and students free of charge or at very low prices. Also houses are built in towns and rural villages to provide the working people at the state expenses.
Our Party's popular policies had been maintained invariably even in the grim period of the "Arduous March" and the forced march.
The popular policies now in force in our country will be pursued in a more profound way in various fields along with progress in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
