Internal Affairs

Central Broadcasting Station reported on May 5 that brilliant feats were being made in a socialist competition to dig pits at a high speed intended to boost production of the February 8 Jikdong Youth Coal Mine.

Chosun Sinbo reported on May 8 that the production system in the Pyongyang Children’s Foodstuff Factory was going through comprehensive repairs and modernization.

The Chinese marine customs office announced that, during the first quarter of 2008, trade volume between North Korea and China amounted 491 million dollars, 47.9% up from the previous year.

Inter-Korean Affairs

On May 7, Minju Joson slammed South Korean government’s decision to open its market to US beef as an “unforgivable criminal act” in an article titled “The pragmatic government, mad about mad beef.”

On May 8, Korean Central News Agency ran a commentary titled “Truth of traitor Lee Myung-bak’ drive to military confrontation”, through which the news agency denounced the South Korean government for building military tension and intensifying confrontation.

 

Foreign Affairs

Through its state-run media, North Korea reported about the conveyance of a verbal personal message to Kim Jong Il from Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Kim’s reply to the message.

Through Pyongyang Broadcasting Services, Rodong Sinmun and other state-run media, North Korea continued denouncing the United States citing the moves to solidify ROK-US alliance and deployment of a nuclear aircraft carrier.

Through Rodong Sinmun, Central Broadcasting Station and other state-run media, North Korea continued denouncing Japan citing the establishment of missile defense system and avoidance of its past wrongdoings.
