ROK National Intelligence Service
Inside North Korea
The Chosun Central News Agency reported (Feb. 15), “A national meeting marking the 64th birthday of Kim Jeong-il (Feb. 16) was held at the April 25 House of Culture on Feb. 15.” In his report, Vice President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly Yang Hyeong-seop contended, “Top priority must be given to the development of the national defense industry, thus steadily bolstering the self-defense war deterrence. As called for in this year’s Joint Editorial, a radical turn must be brought about in economic development and in the life of the people.”
The Central Broadcasting Station emphasized (Feb. 18), “The movement to win the Three-Revolution Red Flag is a popular movement of the entire people of North Korea aimed at bringing wealth and prosperity to our fatherland (the DPRK) that is also becoming the driving force powerfully heading the building of a powerful and prosperous nation.”
Outside North Korea
The Rodong Shinmun emphasized (Feb. 14), “In this situation under which the imperialists are further intensifying exploitation, developing countries must strengthen their unity and cooperation in order to achieve political stability and national prosperity.”
The Rodong Shinmun contended (Feb. 15), “The United States, under the pretext of an anti-terrorism crusade, have expanded the war of aggression that was opposed by other nations, and have perpetuated human rights abuses everywhere around the world.” It went on to say, “The progressive people of the world must denounce the human rights atrocities committed by the US imperialists, and must launch a struggle to safeguard independence and human rights.”
The Rodong Shinmun reported (Feb. 18), “Japan’s paying tribute at the Yasukuni Shrine is arousing strong concern and watchfulness among Asian nations and in the international community.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Rodong Shinmun contended (Feb. 14), “The pro-US conservative forces are clinging to anti-DPRK maneuvers, including raising a commotion over human rights issues in North Korea. The US ambassador to South Korea is pulling strings to stir confrontation with the DPRK behind the scenes.” It propagandized, “We must launch the struggle to remove the US imperialists and pro-US conservative forces who are at their beck and call and are launching maneuvers to spur confrontation with the DPRK.”
The Rodong Shinmun contended (Feb. 19), “The foundation for drawing the reunification of the fatherland nearer lies in achieving solidarity among the entire people of Korea. To this end, priority must be placed on the grand task and the benefit of both people, and all differences must be set aside.”
