61st Anniversary of Liberation of Korea Observed

    Pyongyang, August 15 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate editorials to the 61st anniversary of the liberation of Korea. Since President Kim Il Sung defeated the brigandish Japanese imperialists and liberated Korea 61 years ago, the Korean nation has come to have its genuine country and greet a new era of enjoying a true life and happiness of humankind for the first time in history, an editorial of Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
    After its liberation the country has covered the road of proud victory and shining prosperity under the leadership of the President. The country is called Kim Il Sung's Korea and the nation Kim Il Sung's nation as their origin and history of victory and prosperity are unthinkable without his august name and exploits. The country liberated and built by the President all his life has fully demonstrated its spirit of powerful prosperity under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    As the exploits of the President in the construction of the country are great and the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il who has successfully carried forward them is wise, the history of the country is now shining as the history of the President. The Songun politics of Kim Jong Il serves as a main guarantee for the dignity of the country shining as a powerful country of independence. His Songun leadership has opened a new heyday in the history of the development of self-defensive military power and single-minded unity.
    The editorial refers to the tasks to resolutely defend and eternally glorify the immortal exploits performed by the President in the struggle for the liberation of the country and its prosperity.
    It calls upon the entire Party, all the army and people to uphold the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il with one mind, devotedly defend the headquarters of the revolution and make a fresh leaping progress in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
    Noting that the reunification of the country is the supreme cause of the nation for which the President had worked heart and soul to the last moments of his life, the editorial calls upon all the fellow countrymen in the north and the south and overseas to conduct a vigorous patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" to resolutely frustrate the U.S. imperialists' new war provocation moves and open a new phase for the reunification of the country.
