Meeting of Officials in Field of Land and Environment Preservation Held

    Pyongyang, February 26 (KCNA) -- A meeting of officials in the field of land and environment preservation took place at the People's Palace of Culture Saturday. Present there were Premier of the Cabinet Pak Pong Ju, Secretary of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea Kim Jung Rin and cabinet members, leading officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations, leading officials of provincial, city and county party and power organs and officials of land and environment preservation and related sectors.
    A report on reviewing the work of land management last year was made and then followed speeches at the meeting.
    A reporter and speakers referred to the achievements in the work of land management including the planting of good kinds of trees such as pine-nut trees, larches and acacias in the area of at least 100,000 hectares and the paving of hundreds of kilometers of new roads last year, which they said are the precious fruition of the tireless leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    They underscored the need to launch a dynamic campaign to spruce up the land of the country to suit the features of a great prosperous powerful country true to the party's Juche-based idea of land management in this significant year marking the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's initiation of a powerful party and social campaign for land management.
    They called upon all provinces, cities and counties to step up turning the country into a thick woodland ad greenery and the projects for preventing flood damage, holding fast to afforestation and river improvement as the main task of land management this year. They called for continuing to push forward the paving of new roads and their repair and management, sprucing up the capital city of Pyongyang and extensively building modern dwelling houses in provincial, city and county seats.
    They called upon all sectors and units to set the objects of land construction so as to substantially help develop the national economy and improve the people's living standard and intensify the guidance to construction and supervision for it. They called upon provinces, cities and counties to build up well model units of land management and generalize them to carry on land management on a higher level. They stressed that all the officials should make positive contributions to planning and carrying on the preservation of land and environment in a big way and build up land in a revolutionary way to meet the requirements of the new century, regarding the intention of Kim Jong Il as an absolute standard.
