- RICE / NORTH KOREA / LIBERIA VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- U-S National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice says she is optimistic that multi-lateral talks will help convince North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons program. Ms. Rice also repeated Washington's call on Liberian President Charles Taylor to give up power.
- POWELL / NORTH KOREA VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- Secretary of State Colin Powell Thursday again ruled out a U-S non-aggression pact with North Korea as part of a deal to end that country's nuclear program. But he said there could be less-formal security guarantees for Pyongyang, from the United States and other parties to upcoming six-way talks in Beijing.
- Pyongyang Suspends Mt. Geumgang Tours Korea-net 07 Aug 2003 -- North Korea said on Tuesday (Aug. 5) that it will temporarily suspend the Mt. Geumgang tour program to show its condolences for the late Chung Mong-hun, the chairman of Hyundai Asan who committed suicide on Monday.
- EDITORIAL: NORTH KOREA WEAPONS TALKS VOA 07 Aug 2003 -- The U.S. Government has welcomed North Korea's recent agreement to participate in expanded multilateral talks on ending its nuclear arms program. The other participants will be South Korea, Japan, China, Russia, and the United States. North Korea claims to have reprocessed enough plutonium to make up to six nuclear bombs, claims it already possesses nuclear weapons, and has threatened to produce more.
- S. Korean GNP's Treachery Denounced KCNA 07 Aug 2003 -- The Grand National Party of south Korea recently railroaded a "resolution" on the north's "human rights issue" through the "national assembly" where it holds a majority.
- Japanese Reactionaries' Terrorism against Chongryon under Fire KCNA 07 Aug 2003 -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea in a statement on August 5 urged the Japanese reactionaries to stop at once all forms of provocative acts of threatening the lives and properties of Koreans in Japan, ferret out criminals and punish them severely, while taking proper measures to root out terrorism against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) as early as possible
- Japanese Reactionaries' Terrorist Acts Denounced KCNA 07 Aug 2003 -- Officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) denounced the Japanese reactionaries for their terrorist acts against the Chongryon organs committed in Niigata and Kanagawa, according to the August 4 issue of Choson Sinbo published in Japan.
