  • CONGRESS / IRAN, NORTH KOREA VOA 04 Jun 2003 -- There is mounting concern in Congress about North Korea's nuclear weapons program, and also increasing alarm among many lawmakers about how the Bush administration plans to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions. Bush administration officials, and some experts, are telling Congress the United States is making some headway in gaining support for efforts to address these two problems.
  • AUSTRALIA / NOKOR DRUG TRAFFICKING VOA 04 Jun 2003 -- World leaders continue to consult on how to deal with the North Korean nuclear threat - as new evidence is emerging that Pyongyang may be engaging in international drug smuggling to finance its nuclear program and bolster its military. The U-S Congress last month heard these charges from a North Korean defector and Australia is investigating whether the North Korea sanctioned a ship to carry more than 200 million dollars worth of heroin to drug dealers there.
  • USFK RESPONSE TO INACCURATE CHOSUN ILBO ARTICLE US Forces Korea Release 04 Jun 2003-- An article appearing in today's Chosun Ilbo inaccurately attributes several statements to Gen. Leon J. LaPorte, commander, USFK, from an address he made to members of the National assembly yesterday. The article states that General LaPorte indicated that CFC was changing its operational concepts in order to be prepared to take preemptive strikes at North Korea.

Korean warships' infiltration into north's territorial waters KCNA 04 Jun 2003 -- A spokesman for the navy command of the Korean People's Army answered a question put by KCNA on Monday in connection with the fact that the South Korean military has recently infiltrated warships into the territorial waters of the north side in the West Sea every day, escalating the tensions.

  • SPA Presidium decree promulgated KCNA 04 Jun 2003 -- The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea promulgated a decree Monday on placing Kaephung and Jangphung counties under the jurisdiction of North Hwanghae Province.
